Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) todaycarried out a drive against the menace of open urination, open defecation,splitting in public places, carrying polythene bags and littering of garbage onthe road and lanes.

The drive was carried out on the directions of CommissionerJammu Municipal Corporation Pankaj Magotra by the Health & Sanitation wingof JMC under the supervision of Health Officer Dr Saleem Khan, in the areas ofLower Gummat, Jewel, KC Chowk and Bakshi Nagar.

During the drive, the teams penalized the defaulters foropen urination, polythene carry bags, littering of garbage on the road &lanes and imposed penalties to the tune of Rs 1500 on them. An amount of Rs22100 has been recovered till date from the violators.

The teams aware the public in general to desist frompracticing spitting in public places, open urination and open defecation andlittering of garbage otherwise they shall be penalized accordingly. The ownersof vacant plots who have erected ‘jhuggies’ in their plots for the labourers,have been directed by the JMC to provide them toilet facility and also restrictthem to defecate in open otherwise action under the provisions of Municipal Actshall be initiated against such plot owners.
